Injury Prevention
A Renewed Focus on Strength & Safety
Injury prevention and long-term athlete development are priorities for our board this year. Nothing can eliminate the risk of injury, but we can do more to prepare our athletes’ bodies for the demands of the game. Important Read: This New York Times article about ACL injuries in girls’ sports. We are working on ways to incorporate injury-reduction practices, including speed, agility and strength-training opportunities, coach education, and thoughtful practice structures that incorporate movement, jumping, landing, and cutting.
To that end, we’re partnering with Marco Sanchez, an experienced coach who has worked with the San Jose Sharks, the US Olympic Team, and Mike Boyle. Coach Marco trains out of the Marblehead Fitness Center in Village Plaza - an easy walk from Village or Vets. Ages 9+
-
Open House: Marco will be hosting a Marblehead Girls Youth Lacrosse open house on November 4 at 4pm. Bring the kids - Marco will show some of the exercises they’ll be doing.
-
Sessions are grouped by age, every athlete gets an individualized program. The first 25 minutes is tissue work, mobility, active warm-up, speed and agility, and jump training. Then joint-friendly strength work, where the priority is the right load for perfect technique rather than the heaviest load possible. Finally, conditioning: single leg work, change of direction, and teaching athletes how to land and cut.
-
Training is sold in 10 and 20 session packs: 10-pack is $35/session and the 20-pack is $33/session.
-
Starting Now: Coach Marco hosts drop-in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-6pm. Go any time inside that window (must start by 5:00pm).
